If you have a small business, using social media might be useful to build an online presence, as long as you can redirect your audience to your own website.
Some platforms, like Instagram, don’t allow you to use links in your posts; you can only use one link in your bio. That’s why you may find Instagram posts saying “find the link in my bio”.
So creating your own link in bio page, where you can offer more than one link, might be useful.
In this blog post, I’m going to teach you how to design your own link in bio for free on Flodesk, my favorite email marketing platform that I use to manage my email list.
You can try Flodesk for free for 14 days and get 25% off during the first year with my affiliate link or with my coupon code SOULFULGIRLS at checkout. If you only want to create a link in bio page on Flodesk with their free plan, you can use my affiliate link too.
FLODESK BONUS: If you purchase a Flodesk subscription with my affiliate link or my affiliate code, I’ll also give you one of my Flodesk link in bio templates of your choice for free (there are five different styles: Authors, Bold, Dreamy, Mystical, and Sophia). Value: $21.
To claim this bonus, you’ll have to send me a screenshot of your purchase to hi@soulfulgirls.com and tell me which Flodesk template you want. I’ll give you a 100% coupon code to get that template for free.
This isn’t valid for free trials or the free plan. You have to purchase a Flodesk subscription to qualify for this bonus.
Now grab a cup of your favorite beverage (I have my cup of coffee here ☕), and let’s start with this tutorial.
First, you have to login to your account on Flodesk to get the option to create a link in bio page.
If you’re already inside the Flodesk platform, you can create a link in bio by going to Forms – New Forms.
Once you login to Flodesk, you will find a page with different options to choose a template. Click on “Link in bio”.
You can browse the templates and choose the one that you like the most.
At the moment, there’s no option to create a link in bio in Flodesk from scratch, so you’ll have to select a template, and then click on “Customize it”.
In this case, I’m going to choose the template “Link in bio with freebie II”. But you can use any of the link in bio templates available in Flodesk and follow this tutorial to modify it.
This template includes a freebie, so Flodesk will ask you to choose a segment for those who subscribe to your list when they fill that form.
Once you pick a segment, click on “Save”.
Click on the logo (on the image, not on the block).
On the right side, you will find a menu with the option to toggle between displaying your brand logo or an image that you can upload (recommended file size: 2000 x 2000 px).
If you’d like to show an image instead of your logo, click on the button to deactivate your logo. You’ll find a new option to upload an image, modify its width, and write a new link.
For example, you could add a mockup of your freebie, and leave the website link section blank, because the option to sign up to your list to get that freebie is already on that page.
So that’s what I’m going to do in this example. I’m also going to modify the width to 340, which is the maximum width available.
Now click on the logo block (not on the image or logo) to get access to another menu.
You’ll be available to change the alignment of the logo or image, and the padding around the image.
Click on the title of the freebie section to modify it. A new menu will appear on the right side. You’ll be able to modify the font, size, color, alignment, case, and spacing.
If you’d like to add italics, highlight the text and you’ll find a new menu with additional options.
Click on the description of the freebie to modify it. A new menu will appear on the right side. You’ll be able to modify the font, size, color, alignment, case, and spacing.
If you’d like to add italics or bold, highlight the text and you’ll find a new menu with additional options.
Click on the name field in the subscription form. You’ll find a menu with fields, fonts, and style options.
We’ll start with the field menu, where you can add or modify fields.
You can add the surname field or a custom field. You can also decide if the name field is required.
In this case, I’m going to leave the form as it is, with name and email.
Now click on the fonts menu. You’ll be able to modify the font, size, color, alignment, case, and spacing.
I’m going to customize the style of the form with one of the fonts that I’ve already selected in the link in bio page.
Let’s go to the style menu. You’ll be able to customize the style of the form field, fill and border color, border thickness, spacing, and field sizing.
Next, click on the form button. You’ll find a menu with style and font options.
In the style menu, you’ll be able to customize the style of the button, fill and border colors, border thickness, and button size.
Once you’re happy with the changes, click on the font menu. Here, you’ll be able to modify the font, size, color, alignment, case, and spacing.
If you want to customize the text of the button, highlight the text and then write to replace it.
In this online world, we still want to follow people who we can connect with. That’s why I recommend you to use a profile image in the image block.
Sure, you could add a styled stock image here (related to your content, products, or services), but I think that this is a great opportunity to show your audience who is on the other side of your laptop.
Click on the image block. You’ll find a menu on the right with options to upload an image, modify the shape, and add overlay effects.
Next, upload your image. The recommended file size in Flodesk is 2000 px x 2000 px.
In my case, the image that I’m uploading is 2000 px x 1334 px.
You can change the shape of the image, and if you’d like to, add an overlay. I’m only going to change the shape of the image.
First, click on the title of the call to action section. You’ll get a font menu in which you can modify the font, size, color, alignment, case, and spacing.
I’m going to use the same font that I chose for the freebie title, to keep the design consistent.
Once you’re done customizing the font style, don’t forget to change the content of the title. Highlight the text inside the block and write your title.
And if you’d like to add italics to some words in the title, highlight the word or phrase and you’ll get a new menu with bold and italic options.
Now click on the first call to action button. On the right side, you’ll get a menu with links, style, and block options.
In the links menu, you can add or delete links and change the order of the links.
If you want to modify the text above each link, you have to click on the text in each button in the template. So let’s start doing that first.
Let’s say that you want to modify the order of the links. You can do that by clicking on the six dots on the left of any of the links, and dragging it up or down.
Don’t forget to add your links in the call to action section.
Click on the text of the call to action buttons to get access to the font menu.
In this case, I’m going to choose the same font that I used in the form buttons, to keep the design of the link in bio page consistent.
Next, click on the call to action button and select the style menu on the right side. You’ll be able to activate or deactivate the image in the button, a description of each link, the style of the buttons, fill and border colors, border thickness, spacing, and padding.
If you want to keep the image in the call to action buttons and modify it, click on the image inside the button, and you’ll get a menu to upload an image (your image should be less than 2000 px on any side).
Once you’re done playing with the style of the buttons, we’ll modify the last section at the bottom of the link in bio page.
Click on the about me section (the whole block) and you’ll get access to a block menu where you can select if you want to display a title, description, and signature. You can also change the spacing and the padding of this section.
Next, click on the title, and you’ll get a menu with options to modify the font, size, font color, alignment, case, and spacing. Don’t forget to also highlight the title in the about me section to modify the text. In this case, I’m going to write “About me”, and I’m going to choose the same font that I’ve been using for titles on this page.
Now modify the description section. Highlight the text to write or paste your bio. Then customize the font in the menu on the right side of the screen.
I’m going to keep consistent with the rest of the page, and select the font that I’ve been using for the call to action buttons, and the freebie description.
Lastly, click on the signature section, write your name, and choose a script font that you like in the fonts menu.
Some link in bio templates in Flodesk have social media links activated. In the case of the template that I chose for this example, the social media links are off. So I’m going to click on the blank space or canvas around the link in bio page (without clicking on any block) to get access to the form menu.
Now I’ll activate the social icons.
Click on the social icons to customize them. You’ll get a menu with fonts, links, and block options.
Please have in mind that you’ll only see the icons for the social media accounts that you have linked in the general branding section in Flodesk. If you want to modify them, you’ll have to click on “Links”, and then on “Manage linked accounts”.
You’ll get a new menu with the option to add more linked accounts. You only have to click on any of them to add your link, and then select “save”.
Then select the size, color, and style of the social media icons.
If you’d like to give your email subscribers the opportunity to select their preferences when they download your freebie in the link in bio page, you can activate this section in the form menu.
Click on the blank space or canvas around the link in bio page (without clicking on any block) to get access to the form menu, and then activate the “Preferences” section.
First, click on the title of the subscribers preferences section to change the text and customize the font.
Then click on any subscriber preference option and modify the name of the preference and the segment associated with it in the menu.
You can add or delete options, and reorganize the order by clicking on the six dots on the left side of any preference.
Don’t forget to customize the font and lastly, the style of the preference (checkbox, layout, color, and spacing).
Click on “Thank you”, at the top of the screen, to modify the thank you message.
In this case, you can redirect to a URL with your custom thank you page, choose a success message or write a custom one, or both.
I always select one message from Flodesk (that displays immediately after someone signs up to my list), and also a page redirect to a custom thank you page with a special offer for subscribers only.
In the case of the thank you message that displays before the page redirect, click on the font menu to customize the style of the font.
Click on “Settings”, at the top of the page, to modify the link name and the link preview.
In the “Settings” menu, you can activate double opt-in, choose to be notified when subscribers opt-in to your freebie on this page, and change the segment associated with this freebie.
In the “Links” menu, you can edit the form link, and choose between using your handle or Flodesk’s handle.
In the “Links preview” menu, you can add an image and modify the title and description of your link in bio page.
Click on “Share”, at the top of the page, and copy the link of your link in bio page.
Then add this link in your favorite social media platform. And that’s it! You did it! 🥳
